San Antonio Current has new update
21 hours ago San Antonio City Council looks to ramp up protections for wild peacocks
Members of San Antonio City Council have filed paperwork necessary to bring new protections for the city's wild bird population before the whole body. District 7 Councilwoman Marina Alderete Gavito on Tuesday filed a Council Consideration Request (CCR) to begin discussing new protections for birds including wild peacocks. CCRs, which must be approved by five members, are a significant first step in getting a measure to a vote before the whole council.

1 day ago Open Thread: How San Antonio gets the day off to celebrate two Spurs legend’s birthdays
Photo by Jesse D. Garrabrant/NBAE via Getty Images Big Fun and the Iceman means no school today When I was a kid, we got out of school for Abraham Lincoln’s birthday and George Washington’s birthday. They were ten days apart. I’m not sure when it happened, but they eventually lumped them into “President’s Day,” probably for fear we’d someday end up with too many celebratory days off. I propose a similar holiday for Pounders. Yesterday was Tim Duncan’s 48th birthday. Tomorrow is George Gervin’s 72nd birthday. And if you are in San Antonio, then you already know there is no school today. What? No school! How? Well, I’d like to say we take the day between Big Fun and the Iceman’s days of birth in recognition of the two Spurs legends. Alas, it is actually part of the Fiesta celebration. The town shuts down for Battle of Flowers, “a patriotic celebration to honor the heroes of the Alamo, Goliad and the Battle of San Jacinto has since evolved into one of the oldest and largest parades in the country.” Now, if we can just tie in the Spurs to this Fiesta celebration, then we can start a larger “Day of the Spurs” holiday for all to celebrate. Happy belated birthday, Timmy. Happy early birthday, Iceman. (It’s the math geek in me, but there is something comforting about the two being 24 years apart and these birthdays being multiples of 24.) Welcome to the Thread. 2 days ago Open Thread: Philadelphia 76er file a complaint over officiating in games 1 and 2
Photo by Sarah Stier/Getty Images Questionable calls now dominating the series between Philly and New York It what has become an issue for more than one team, questionable officiating is taking the spotlight from some great basketball. The other night, the Knicks scored 8 unanswered points in 27 seconds to steal the wind from the 76ers sails and take a a 2-0 lead in the series. Here’s the feedback in the NBA’s last two-minute’s report: With 1:14 remaining, OG Anunoby committed a defensive three-second penalty that the officials missed. This ultimately suited Philadelphia just fine, though, as Maxey made a 3-pointer five seconds later. With 34.7 seconds remaining, Joel Embiid fouls Donte DiVincezo as he begins his dribble, affecting his SQBR (speed, balance, quickness and rhythm). This no-call also worked out for New York, as it led to Brunson’s 3-pointer to bring the score down to 101-99. With 27.2 seconds remaining, “an attempt to call a timeout by Coach Nurse (PHI) during this play is neither recognized nor granted by the officials.” This is something Nurse himself grumbled about after Game 2. “I called timeout,” Nurse explained. “The referee looked right at me and ignored me. Tyrese Maxey got the ball. I called timeout again. He ignored me again. Then the melee started.” With 27 seconds remaining, “Brunson (NYK) pulls Maxey’s (PHI) jersey away from his body, which affects Maxey’s ability to secure the pass.” This pull was not called, and affects Maxey as he attempts to secure the inbounds pass that is tipped by Josh Hart. It should have been a foul. With 24.9 seconds remaining, “Hart (NYK) steps forward into Maxey’s (PHI) space and initiates lower body contact that causes Maxey to lose his balance and fall to the floor.” This should have been a foul as well, meaning Maxey was fouled twice by the Knicks on the way to their steal, but neither was called. Here is the final minute: The Philadelphia 76ers stated they will not file an official protest, but are lodging a complaint. LeBron James and the Lakers also lost a buzzer-beater to the Denver Nuggets. He felt his team had also been treated unfairly in the calls: Five missed or botched calls -four benefitting New York- in less than 2 minutes. Can you imagine what this could look like over an entire game? Welcome to the Thread. Join in the conversation, start your own discussion, and share your thoughts.
